Consulting Methodology Glossary DefinitionRegardless of what sector or target audience a consultancy specializes in, there are some core parts of consulting methodology that are universal:

  • defining the problem

  • planning the solution

  • stepping back to see whether or not it worked

Evaluation

The first step to solving any problem is to understand it fully.

If you hire consultants, you can expect them to do a thorough evaluation of your company before they make any concrete suggestions on how to move forward involving employees, management, and any other relevant stakeholders.

Planning

Once the problem has been defined, the usual next step of consulting methodology is to plan out different options and present them to company leaders.

These plans should include clear objectives, milestones, and a discussion of the risks and costs inherent to each.

Implementation

Putting a plan into action is always challenging. Consulting methodology varies in how to determine when implementation has been successful.

Whichever approach your consultants use, make sure that it is an objective metric that holds them accountable for the services that they provide.
