HP Decides to Stay in the PC Business
In the shock of all shocks, in what was largely thought by many industry insiders to be a "done deal," Hewlett-Packard Co (HP) today announced that it is not exiting its PC business.
This is the first big decision made by CEO Meg Whitman since taking over the helm at HP just a few short weeks ago.
Whitman is best known for the eight years in which she was CEO of eBay. Since leaving eBay in 2007, Whitman has been actively involved in a number of political causes and campaigns, including running for governor of California.
The news that HP is staying in the PC business should be very welcome news to members of IT reseller channel, where HP for decades has been an industry favorite, especially among small business VARs, IT solution providers, and network integrators.
What's especially noteworthy is how HP over the years became the ultimate owner of many former, once-independent IT giants, including Compaq Computer Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation.
