Evertek Computer Corporation Largely Hands-Off with Social Media
With social media marketing so in vogue at the moment, it’s surprising to see an IT distributor like Evertek Computer Corporation basically absent from social media marketing and social networks like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
Granted, Evertek Computer Corporation does have a small presence on LinkedIn. But is this deliberate policy or just an oversight? The distributor’s website homepage provides the first clue. Full of computer parts, prices, and volume discounts, it suggests that Evertek wants to compete at a basic level on products and prices, rather than premium service and strategy.
Low Cost and Low Touch
The “About“ page, with its succinct information on the company, tells a similar story. Evertek Computer Corporation positions itself as one of the largest distributors of excess computer and consumer electronics equipment at low prices. Its business is to “focus on deals” and to offer resellers “opportunity buys.”
To make the most of a rapidly changing catalog, Evertek invites customers (resellers) to opt in to the company’s e-mail list to receive news on specials and “closeout alerts.” That way, the distributor can send information direct to people who want it and avoid having it go stale in a Facebook page or a YouTube video clip.
Who Needs Social Networking?
Social media marketing can be useful to IT distributors who want to consolidate customer acquisition campaigns and build customer loyalty.
However, Evertek Computer Corporation may simply have accepted less loyalty, but more sales volume, through lower prices. But if Evertek now starts sending out more Tweets, it might be a sign that the distributor wants to extend up the food chain...to a place where distribution leaders such as Ingram Micro Incorporated, SYNNEX Corporation, and Tech Data Corporation are firmly entrenched.
