Seattle is an attractive area to serve colocation data centers. It has a good blend of technology, connectivity, and economic stability.

The climate and green hydroelectricity options reduce energy costs significantly. As a hub for domestic and international carrier routes, Seattle is perfect for markets across the northwestern U.S. and is a gateway to Asia.

Another driving force is the recent re-adoption of tax incentives for data centers. Many diverse industries require data center space, but there are large data centers in Seattle that can accommodate that demand.

Here’s a list of five of the Seattle colocation providers with the most square footage:

1.   Equinix

The Seattle location of Equinix contains over 53,000 square feet of colocation space. There is an ability to connect directly to over 100 companies collocated here and connect options for more than 40 network service providers. Designed to meet Seismic Zone 3 specifications, this data center is not only large but secure.

2.   CenturyLink (Cyxtera) (Evoque)

CenturyLink has three data centers in Seattle, offering a combined 400,000 square feet of space. There are redundant utility feeds, multi-level security measures, network diversity, and a range of colocation and cloud solutions that provide a data center where enterprises can grow.

3.   Verizon

Over 108,000 square feet of customizable floor space in a structure built to withstand major natural or manmade incidents, Verizon’s Seattle colocation data center is designed to maintain security, uptime, and availability. Security is provided with 24/7 monitoring, security card access, and closed-circuit video surveillance.

4.   Digital Fortress

Digital Fortress has a downtown facility and a south Seattle facility with a combined 67,000 square feet of data space with custom-designed cages or walled custom suites for mission-critical needs. Multiple network carriers and 24/7 on-site support provide secure and reliable service. 95% of the utility power comes from hydroelectric sources, saving money and providing reliability.

5.   Sabey Data Center

Sabey Data Center is the West Coast's largest privately owned multi-tenant property. Its combined data center space is over 1,372,000 square feet. Using ambient cooling 90% of the year and utilizing hydropower, Sabey is highly efficient, and energy costs are kept low. Sabey Data Center’s CCTV monitoring, bulletproof building access points, on-site security 24/7, and 24/7 environment monitoring make data safe and secure.

More Seattle Colocation Options

While the five listed above offer many square footage spaces, they offer more than size.

The services, energy savings, reliability, security, and disaster recovery features are also significant.

There are also many full-featured mid-size and smaller data centers in Seattle. In fact, there are over 40 colocation data centers, with more in nearby towns like Redmond, home of Microsoft.

Seattle has colocation options to suit various needs for any sized company.
