Social media marketing is all about engaging with your audience where they naturally hang out. Facebook is currently the biggest social network around. So it’s one of the first places that small businesses turn to market IT services, and up until now that has been a sensible move.
It takes a considerable amount of time and effort to build a quality business presence on Facebook. Social media is by no means a free source of marketing for any business.
But Facebook has recently changed the game, making it even harder and more expensive for businesses to reach their audiences—even the ones that have already connected with their pages by liking them.
Making Sure You Stay In the Game
My advice on how to market IT services on Facebook at the current time is to:
-
Create your business page and brand it
-
Curate content for the page that is educational and informative to your target audience
-
Use the page to syndicate your own content
-
Invite relevant Facebook contacts to like your page
-
Keep connecting with people that you connect with offline and via other social networks
However, do not spend any extensive time building up the presence on your page. Keep it fresh and engage with anyone that engages with you—that should be the limit of it for the time being.
Why You Need to Adjust Your Strategy
It can take hundreds, if not thousands, of hours to build up a quality presence and the reason that you do this is so you can expose your target audience to your content. This exposure helps to build up your reputation and your trust levels.
The issue is that Facebook has made significant changes to the way in which your posts appear in your audience’s feed.
Now only a low percentage of the people that have liked your page will get to see your posts.
So unless you want to spend a great deal of money paying to promote your posts through Facebook, or paying for Facebook ads, then this marketing tactic should be placed on the backburner for the present time.
Instead, research the Facebook groups within your local area and niche
Then choose one or two of these to join and commence networking. This is the most viable means to market IT services on Facebook now.
